Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about medical registration and eligibility for this destination.

Check Your Eligibility
Not in all cases. The Special Registration pathway bypasses the examination for specialists willing to serve 5 years in public healthcare. Limited Registration also does not require the examination. Only the standard licensing pathway requires passing all three parts.
The MCHK Licensing Examination has three parts: Part I covers Professional Knowledge, Part II tests Medical English proficiency, and Part III is a Clinical Examination. All three must be passed, followed by a 12-month internship at an approved hospital.
No. As of April 2023, Cantonese proficiency is no longer mandatory for medical registration in Hong Kong. English proficiency is assessed through Part II of the licensing examination. However, Cantonese ability remains practically beneficial for patient interactions.
Generally yes, a confirmed job offer is needed for work visa applications. The exception is the Top Talent Pass Scheme (for high earners or top-100 university graduates), which allows a visa without a job offer — though it does not exempt you from medical registration requirements.
Only with full registration. Limited Registration restricts practice to your designated institution. Special Registration requires 5 years of public healthcare service before conversion to full registration, which then permits private practice.
Yes. Credential verification is mandatory for all applicants. Credentials are confirmed directly with issuing institutions, and the ECFMG EPIC platform may be used for this process.
